A New Saintliness: for Simone Weil

You were a bell, struck,
and still ringing -
out from the darkest
corners of the world
to the edges of its glory
without dimming.

A rare calling
you touched
that most painful nerve
in the world--
affliction,

and by it
you plunged
into the depths of love.

Though an outsider
to the church, Christ
showed you the way:
his own fragile body,
flesh, blood, nerves and brain.
